I had voicemail disabled on my phone service, but somehow (and without me doing anything) it has reactivated and I’m getting texts telling me there are voicemail messages. There are three… they are all scam callers. Which makes me wonder, did scammers reactivate my voicemail?

iPhone?

Turn off “Live Voicemail” which was automatically turned on for everyone.

You don’t have live voicemail turned on do you, I think from memory it was activated when an iOS update came out. Settings-General-Apps-Phone-Live Voicemail On/off

@billbennett.bsky.social No. Although I wonder if switching to a new phone turned the carrier voicemail back on...

@billbennett.bsky.social That's just it. We're hitting the point where 'smart' things make decisions that are not fully transparent, which may suit some people, but worries me.

@billbennett , most likely your service provider, it's an additional income for them.

Are you with Spark? Because this has happened to me too. It wasn't spammers though. After the third or so time, now I just have a voice prompt that says don't bother leaving a message, because I won't listen to it. Seems to do the job.
