But if you don’t vote these muppets OUT then you’re as good as voting them back IN.

@billbennett.bsky.social I’m a volunteer at the local repair cafe. Realistically, fixing mobile phones or laptops is beyond our scope, but I just know one of theses days someone is going to turn up with something with a case that needs opening.
@billbennett.bsky.social Fans in summer, heaters in winter, toasters, hair dryers, kettles, vacuum cleaners… we get a lot of vacuums. That kind of thing. We had a portable fridge last month.
@billbennett.bsky.social Half the time the fixes are trivial… the other half the time it’s about making judgement calls. Sometimes, maybe 10% of cases, you have to tell people to “go buy a new one” often because you can’t get the parts. But we don’t use ifixit.
@billbennett.bsky.social It depends a lot on the category, certain types of products are much easier to repair than others. Also varies hugely from brand to brand. Of course, we rarely get to see the really well made appliances. Last time I fixed a blender that was at least 40 years old.
@billbennett.bsky.social Sadly, some of the companies that did make good ones in the past did not survive… probably driven out of business by the poorer quality but lower-priced or better-marketed rivals. With other brands you can see deterioration
