One thing I absolutely HATE about TradeMe is that I filled in fields saying that I don’t allow pickups and I’m not open to offers and yet all week long I’ve had annoying fools sending messages for both these things. And I can see these people are major online traders.

Andrew

I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of lonely people ask questions on trademe for some human connection.

Matt

I also was not impressed they tried to get me to update my details which included birthday + DoB (which they stated they need as need to be 18+ to trade)…closed the form unfilled, continue to trade. If they force it, I’ll just delete my account. I don’t use it that often, nor do I need to.

LINCARD1000

A significant number of people who use TM (as buyers) simply cannot or refuse to read auction details where a lot of that’s explained. I now have a copy/paste text file for these types.

@billbennett.bsky.social I’m using it to clear the cupboard of tech gadgets and accessories to make space for new ones. I rather sell everything for $1 + postage to people who can use them than put it in landfill, but TM is so full of vultures that I don’t feel safe handing over any data, that includes home pickups.

Do you ignore those messages? I would.

Bill Bennett

@billbennett.bsky.social I didn’t because I’m out of practice, haven’t been there for years, but I think I will from now on.

NinjaKitty 忍者キティ

I tend to use that rule everywhere, Bill. Maybe due to years of classroom practice of just glaring at the silly questioners 😂

@billbennett.bsky.social You show great wisdom.

There could be tech recycling charities which take it - here we have Molten Media, I've both dropped stuff off and also purchased stuff (e.g. replacement motherboard, RAM) - website linked to show what they do. molten.org.nz

Bill Bennett

@billbennett.bsky.social I do that with things that need recycling. There’s one near me. But this is for things that still have years of useful service left in them.

Ice Nine

Fair sense - this place would have a range of things from zero use (say an Iomega zip drive) to occasionally recent gear, or fully working '80s stuff on occasion - and great for picking up a monitor cheap. Haven't a clue what you have, but are you open to pick-up? 😆

Rant Machine

Where is pick up? (when you've clearly stated pick up is in X).Does it come with an X? (when you've clearly stated it does NOT come with an X).Buy Now? (If I wanted to do buy now, I would have put up a buy now)Will you accept $[ridiculously low amount]? (no, I'm not a charity).Try Neighbourly.

Carl B Latro

It's been a while since I listed anything, but it used to be that questions only showed up on your listing if you replied to them. If it's still the same, then don't answer the silly questions.

Bill Bennett

@billbennett.bsky.social Yeah, I’m five years out of practice so forgot the earlier lessons.
