This is really interesting, thank you - in a recent family conversation we were also wondering why the boutique cheese industry has struggled to produce a Lewis Rd esque scaled-up brand to compete at the national level.

an interesting read. As the article also notes, I'd noticed recently that it was hard to buy NZ pork products now. It is usually all imported pork. My guess is this is the result of our push for free trade. We get export markets for our products but it also allows cheaper imports to dominate our market.
