I’m taking a fresh look at microblogging. I’m interested to know how people who have both a WordPress site and a micro.blog get the two working together. In particular, it is possible to combine the two RSS feeds?

Brad Enslen

I can't help with the RSS question, although there used to be third party services that would combine RSS feeds.

I have both a hosted micro.blog and a Wordpress blog. Mainly I just have them cobbled together via the Menus. Frankly my micro.blog is under used because most of my Like, Bookmark, Reading posts I do on Wordpress. The micro blog gets used for the occasional quip or I'll just post there to keep it from rusting up. :-)

My intention is to someday move Wordpress blog to a hosted Micro.blog blog and combine the two.

There’s a lot of journalism on my WordPress blog including a lot of long form writing. I think micro.blog can probably handle it all, although maybe not the JavaScript used for Press Patron, if you look at my WordPress site https//:billbennett.co.nz that would be the only serious sticking point. I think I could otherwise shoehorn everything in. This could be the answer to the problem I face with Gutenberg...

For writing Micro.blog is pretty slick. You can use HTML to post to MB hosted blogs. I recently did an experiment to see how using a WYSIWYG editor to draft the post would work in case I wanted to use that, particualrly for long form, on MB or Blot. It worked just fine but added a couple of steps.

I post to a WordPress blog as my main blog, then use the RSS feed from my WordPress blog as an input to my micro.blog. If you have a paid micro.blog account, I think your posts via RSS will show up in the micro.blog paid blog (not sure though, because I do not have a paid blog anymore. There is a help page on RSS feeds: help.micro.blog/2017/api-... Hope this is helpful.

@AndySylvester That help page is a bit esoteric, probably makes lots of sense to developers. But it does give a clue where to go next. Thanks fort that.

@bradenslen I’m looking a similar now with iA Writer. it’s almost the perfect combination for me.

Depending on what your goal is, another option would be to use @michal’s Feed Importer to copy your billbennett.micro.blog posts to your WordPress blog (so they’d appear in that feed, which could become a unified “Bill Bennett’s web writing” feed).

To go the other way (make the billbennett.micro.blog feed the “all-Bill Bennett, all the time” feed), you could use IFTTT to copy the WordPress posts over to billbennett.micro.blog.

I’m sure there’s something out there that would combine the two sites’ feeds without having to cross-post/copy over the posts from one blog to another, but I don’t know what that something is ;-)
